General Music classes at the Mill Pond School will explore music through singing, movement, listening, playing instruments, and creating their own music.
Highlights of the 4th Grade General Music Class will include:
-expanding recorder and rhythm skills
-learning about instruments of the orchestra,
including a school trip to hear the Boston
Symphony Orchestra play at Symphony Hall
-Singing and dancing to American folk music
-composing your own music
Highlights of the 5th Grade general Music Class will include:
-learning new rhythm patterns in songs, movement
and instrumental pieces
-expanding skills on xylophones, dulcimers and
other percussion instruments
-studying American folk music, music from the
Colonial Period, African American Spirituals and
the Blues
Highlights of the 6th Grade General Music Class will include:
-understanding differences in musical forms, with a
focus on theme and variations
-composing your own music in several different
styles
-African drumming which includes learning and
performing many different layers of rhythm
-collaboration with your classmates
